What is FAME GAME:
FAME GAME is a rapidly-growing website that maps the networks of capital, influence, and attention that drive New York’s cultural economy. FAME GAME creates public-facing “social network” profiles for the 100,000+ most visible players in the New York media based on their cultural footprint: events attended, influential connections, and creative references. Individuals and organizations captured by FAME GAME can claim the “profile” of their cultural footprint and actively effect it, both online and off. The result is a multi-media “game” whereby players can increase the score of other people, parties, and projects by lending their fame, thereby increasing their own score/fame in the process. The goal is to influence culture and bring attention to things that deserve it, by playing in the media.
How FAME GAME works:
The site is powered by our proprietary algorithm, which we like to call ANDY, that identifies the fastest rising people in the media. So far, it has analyzed over 600,000 photos and thousands more news sources to determine connections between players of the game. FAME GAME updates its database each morning using new information imported from the previous day’s media.
What FAME GAME does:
FAME GAME is a different way to look at Fame. The website helps to make transparent the process by which people and organizations use their fame to increase the visibility of things they care about.
In this way, emerging artists, business leaders and personalities can garner more attention from the media, allowing them to assume (and re-invent) the role that publicists traditionally fill.
